New Alnwick courtyard festival takes its inspiration from Spain
A four-day patio and courtyard festival is being held from July 18-21 with local residents and tourists encouraged to visit as many as possible.
There will also be a competition for the best courtyard/patio entry with a £100 prize and shield for the winner.

David Taylor, one of the organisers, said: “I took my inspiration the Spanish city of Cordoba which has run this kind of festival for many years.
“The courtyard/patio must be exclusively decorated with real flowers that can be supported by architectural props and water features.
“Most houses have a suitable area that can be planted up and it relies more on enthusiasm than gardening skill. You do not need to be Monty Don!”

Refreshments and music will also be available at some locations.
It is planned to produce a leaflet including a map of locations.
The competition will seek the best entries across three categories: private courtyard/patio; communal courtyard/patio; and pub, restaurant, hotel, B&B.
An entry fee of £20 is sought from participants towards the cost of putting on the event.
